A sad symbol of our climate protection measures? The tarpaulins on the glacier appear to have been placed there haphazardly. Although some of the ice is covered, large sections remain exposed to the sun and are melting. Furthermore, the tarpaulins cannot stop the ice from melting; they can only delay it. This situation can be compared to inadequate climate protection measures worldwide: a patchwork quilt with large gaps and insufficient action. This is not enough to combat climate change effectively or make a real difference. We can only hope that this will change in the coming years. Unfortunately, it will probably be too late for the glacier in the photograph and many others in the Alps. According to the latest studies, many Alps glaciers could largely disappear by 2100, including the ice giant in this photo.
